Americas Styrenics was formed in 2008 as a 50/50 joint venture between The Dow Chemical Company and Chevron Phillips. After Trinseo became an independent company, it assumed Dow's ownership share in the JV.

The company was originally formed as Sumitomo Dow Limited in 1996 as 50/50 joint venture between Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. and The Dow Chemical Company. After Trinseo became an independent company, it assumed Dow’s ownership share in the JV.
