Styron, the global materials company and manufacturer of plastics, latex and rubber, commercialized its EMERGE™ PC/ABS 7700 Advanced Resins with official notification from UL/ IDES, the leading safety science company and provider of global plastics information, of the publishing of its Yellow Card UL Recognition indicating the material’s flammability rating.
The resin has been UL listed with V-0 at 1.5mm and 5VB at 2.0mm and 5VA at 2.5mm.
EMERGE™ PC/ABS 7700 Advanced Resin is a cost effective material that was designed to be used broadly, including for powered equipment housings. Application areas include consumer electronics, electrical & lighting, information technology equipment (ITE), and medical device housings where a number of key properties -- including a flammability rating -- are needed. This ignition-resistant blend does not contain chlorine or bromine additives.
“The most exciting thing about EMERGE™ PC/ABS 7700 Advanced Resin is it can be used in a wide variety of housing components, in a single material solution,” said Martin Lindway, Americas PCCB Business Leader.
“Ideally a molder would like to use the same material in a total design and this material integrates a number of performance attributes in a cost-effective solution. It is well balanced, has excellent, consistent processability and terrific color stability over product life. This results in a variety of options and the potential for higher yields at a reduced system cost.“
EMERGE™ PC/ABS 77000 Advanced Resin balances properties including durability, toughness, non-halogenated ignition resistance, and UV and thermal stability. Excellent processability allows designers and molders to produce thin-wall parts. This resin has improved thermal stability and can be processed across a broad temperature range. Exceptional UV performance means that housings will maintain their integrity and appearance over time.
Styron resins are available directly through Styron and through distribution partners PolyOne Distribution, Entec, and Channel Prime Alliance.
Yellow Card UL Recognition enables customers to utilize the “recognized” material in applications requiring safety certifications or standards. In many cases it also enables customers to acquire UL Certification on their final products with reduced testing potentially saving them significant time and money, typically required for product evaluation.
