Kunststoff Magazine Explores the Benefits of Trinseo's New ENLITE ABS LGF

Germany’s leading plastics magazine, Kunststoff, has published an interesting feature exploring the benefits of Trinseo’s new long-glass-fiber-reinforced acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS LGF). The article ran in the March 2019 issue of the magazine, which is distributed to senior decision makers throughout the global plastics processing industry.

The feature explores the feasibility of Trinseo’s ABS LGF as a lighter-weight alternative to magnesium for the development of semi-structural automotive components. It praises the glass-fiber-reinforced polymer solution for its high degree of rigidity, in addition to its high dimensional stability and tight component tolerances.

Demonstrating the effectiveness of Trinseo’s ABS LGF, Kunststoff magazine draws attention to an international automotive supplier that had previously specified magnesium for the design of an instrument carrier, but switched to the ABS LGF after discovering the significant advantages that it offers. Trinseo’s solution was specified for the way it maintains high form stability and creep resistance, even at high temperatures of up to 100 degrees Celsius.

Speaking of the need for collaborations like this when sourcing alternative plastic solutions, Norwin van Riel, Technology Leader at Trinseo, says in the article, “Due to the complexity involved in changing materials, it is important to thoughtfully combine material and component knowledge.“
