Benefits of the new STYRON X-TECH 2175 Polystyrene resin include:
- Advanced down-gauging. Because of the material’s improved rigidity, manufacturers can produce better performing refrigerator and freezer liners using less raw material, resulting in material savings of up to 10 percent.
- Improved Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR). The resin features an increased level of stiffness and chemical resistance that reinforces strength against impact inside the fridge.
- Improved wall thickness distribution, broader processing windows, faster cycle times, and better thermoforming are other benefits for appliance manufacturers.
The resin’s proprietary technology offers an exceptionally high melt strength, and in the future, Trinseo could expand the STYRON X-TECH platform to develop other High-Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) and General-Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS) grades that produce improved performance characteristics not only aimed at the home appliances industry, but also for applications in packaging and building and construction markets.
