Synthetic Rubber for Heavy Truck Tires

Enabling improved fuel-efficiency in the heavy truck industry with Trinseo’s Solution-Styrene Butadiene rubber (S-SBR)

Building on our long-term experience in passenger car tires, Trinseo has been extending its Solution-Styrene Butadiene Rubber (S-SBR) portfolio to address the application requirements for heavy truck and bus tires. With our recently developed grades, specifically designed to reduce rolling resistance in truck tire tread, we are taking the lead in the introduction of S-SBR materials into truck and bus radial tires to further impact on global sustainability goals.

Trinseo’s low Tg polymers, like SPRINTAN™ SLR 3402, are already used in truck and bus tires as a partial replacement for natural rubber, enabling improvement in energy-efficiency as well as performance, with focus on balancing rolling resistance and wear. Based on Lab indicators, which show 20 to30% lower hysteresis in the tread compounds, using S-SBR could translate into fuel saving of three to four percent depending on the final tire construction.
