Tomorrow serves as an important milestone in Trinseo’s history, marking ten years since our carve-out from the Dow Chemical Company. And although we cannot come together to lift a glass to another 10 years of success, we would be remiss in not honoring our employees, whose hard work, dedication, and passion has not only carried Trinseo through these past few months but also through the past decade.
10 Years of Growth, Innovation & Sustainability
Over the past 10 years, our employees have achieved many noteworthy milestones. From completing our IPO in 2014 to changing our name from Styron to Trinseo, we took bold strokes early and quickly, and we haven’t shied away from doing so since.
Thanks to the drive and agility of our team, we’ve evolved into a dynamic company. Today, we offer innovative solutions intrinsic to your daily life, such as chemical-resistant plastics for medical equipment, synthetic rubber for high-performance tires, and low-to-zero VOC latex binders for interior paint primers. We’ve also taken pioneering steps to advance the future of sustainability and the circular economy – helping to found Styrenics Circular Solutions in 2017 and launching our own Sustainability Council.
In addition to remembering how far we’ve come, we’re equally focused on our goals for the future.
Looking Ahead to the Next 10 Years
As an industry that is intrinsic to enabling products that we — as consumers — use each and every day, we see the peaks and valleys of global economies before other businesses do. And while COVID-19 is much more than an economic downturn, we are poised to invest in growth technologies and markets to enable a quicker recovery. Of note, our M&A activity will continue to be a key part of our strategy.
Looking forward, we will continue to invest in solutions to ensure the delivery of complementary and specialized solutions that meet our customers’ needs and solve for their complex materials challenges. We are specifically investing in areas such as Construction, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers (CASE) in Latex Binders, S-SBR for tires, and Engineered Materials for consumer electronics, medical, and Thermo-Plastic Elastomer applications.
Through the passion and collaboration of our people, we will continue to deliver innovative solutions for our customers – challenging ourselves to further embed sustainability into our company culture and to share our circular vision with the entire value chain. In fact, in just a few weeks, our team will release our 10 year Sustainability Goals – a set of strategic, ambitious goals for developing a sustainable product portfolio, reducing the environmental footprint of our operations globally, and living out our values of safety, respect, and employee engagement.
Thanks to the hard work and accountability of our 2,700-strong family, Trinseo has become a strong, independent company able to solve for industry problems of the moment and the future. I look forward to sharing more of our journey over the next 10 years.
