Trinseo (NYSE: TSE), a global materials company and manufacturer of plastics, latex binders, and synthetic rubber, has been recognized as a 2019 Michigan Governor’s Service Award winner in the Corporate Community Leader category following a nomination by the United Way of Midland County. This was Trinseo’s first nomination in any category of the program which honors individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations for their commitment to volunteerism, service, or philanthropy.
“Our state is lucky to have such outstanding Michiganders who work hard every single day to build a home for opportunity for everyone,” said Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “Whether it’s uplifting our neighborhoods or bringing communities together when tragedy strikes, they do this work even when nobody's looking because they know that every contribution makes a huge impact. I’m proud to present the Governor’s Service Awards to this year’s recipients as recognition of their sacrifice and dedication throughout our state.”
Trinseo Volunteer Days – the Company’s flagship global service initiative – began in 2014 as a two-week event but has expanded into a month-long affair in June due to positive employee reception. Through 2018, Trinseo’s 210 Michigan-based employees have led the Company’s volunteer effort globally with 2,540 service hours benefitting 12 nonprofit organizations in the Midland and Detroit areas.
Outside of Volunteer Days, the Community Outreach team in Midland meets quarterly to plan local service activities. In 2018, employees funded and built a 160-foot boardwalk through a wetland connecting Floyd Elementary School to a nearby nature trail which enhanced access and contributed to the school’s science curriculum. In addition to acts of service, Michigan employees personally donated more than $60,000 to support local non-profits in 2018 alone. Through both their financial giving and volunteer hours, Trinseo’s employees have made a palpable difference across the Great Lakes State.
“This is a tremendous honor, recognizing our company and the exceptional people who have dedicated their time, energy, compassion, and also, their construction skills to deliver a variety of significant projects to the local community,” said Mike Szabo, Global Program Director, T2020. “I am very proud to be a part of such a caring and engaged team of colleagues!”
The Governor’s Service Awards winners will be honored during a special ceremony hosted by the Michigan Community Service Commission at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, at the Detroit Opera House.
