Trinseo (NYSE: TSE) a global materials solutions provider and manufacturer of plastics, latex binders, and synthetic rubber, will lead a discussion around the topic of effective lightweight exterior components for assisted and autonomous driving applications at this year’s Automotive Materials Summit.
During the event, which takes place in Munich, Germany, from June 17-18, 2019, Norwin van Riel, Trinseo’s Technology Leader, will present a newly-launched mineral fiber-reinforced PC/ABS. Designed to satisfy OEM requirements for large, painted, exterior components, the material delivers a very low co-efficient of thermal expansion (CLTE) value, ensuring the high dimensional stability required for vehicle designs that have low gap tolerance.
A low density material, Trinseo’s new PC/ABS facilitates lightweight vehicle components and boasts exceptional flow properties which not only permit thin walls, but also guarantee a high level of design freedom even with large and long moldings. Furthermore, the filler technology that has been carefully developed for the new material is highly compatible with Radar and LiDar technology, making it well suited to future vehicle designs for assisted and autonomous driving applications.
Ahead of the Automotive Materials Summit event, of which Trinseo is the Plastics Platinum Sponsor, Norwin van Riel commented: “The vehicle designs of tomorrow require highly versatile and effective plastic solutions which not only facilitate lightweight yet highly stable structural exteriors, but which support future technologies as well. Our new mineral fiber-reinforced PC/ABS has been designed to support assisted and autonomous driving technologies to deliver a complete plastics solution to vehicle manufacturers.”
Norwin van Riel’s presentation, entitled “Mineral Fiber Filled PC/ABS Designed for Large Exterior Components with Radar and LiDAR Integration,” will be given on June 18 at 13:45.
The Automotive Materials Summit takes place at the Infinity Hotel in Munich.
