The Automotive marketplace is in a continual state of change, and as vehicles become more advanced, interior aesthetics and increased functionality is growing in importance.
With Trinseo’s reputation for delivering premium materials to automotive manufacturers for over 25 years, Tata Motors looked to Trinseo to enhance their instrument and door panels in the new, best-selling Tata Tiago.
Trinseo Account Manager, Santosh Rathod, and the Company’s European technical service and development specialists collaborated with Tata to discuss their material needs and recommend the best solution.
Tata’s Tiago model required an Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) resin with high heat performance and low gloss appearance for numerous instrument and door panel parts, including bezel and steering column shroud, top and bottom of front and rear door handles, as well as switch and cap switch bezels.
Tata selected Trinseo’s injection molding grade MAGNUM™ 3416 SC, which met their requirements.
The MAGNUM™ grade delivered high heat performance and low gloss appearance. Another advantage for Tata’s application was the combination of the low gloss appearance with a modified tool texture. A special mold cavity finish allowed for a matte surface while eliminating the need for paint. This resulted in lighter and more cost-effective parts.
“We are very proud that Trinseo could collaborate with Tata Motors and contribute to their success with our MAGNUM™ 3416 SC resin," said Santosh.
