Chemical Week: Trinseo's Global Business Director for Polystyrene Explains Chemical Recycling

Chemical Week magazine recently published an article on the future of plastic waste including the opportunities and threats it presents for plastics demand within the European Union (EU) in its July 1/8 issue. The article – Recycling Shifts Plastics Demand Outlook – features commentary from Nicolas Joly, Global Business Director for Polystyrene at Trinseo.

In the feature, Joly discusses the activities Trinseo is engaged in to advance the chemical recycling of polystyrene (PS), bringing it back to its original feedstock and making it infinitely recyclable for numerous applications. Joly prominently highlights the potential that PS recycling brings and the truly circular approach.

This technology is already being implemented in North America by a company called Regenyx, which was recently formed as a joint venture between Americas Styrenicsand Agilyx. AmSty, short for Americas Styrenics, is itself a joint venture of Trinseo and Chevron Phillips. Regenyx began recycling polystyrene earlier this year in Tigard, Oregon.

Further emphasized in the article is the collaboration between Trinseo and the Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS) platform to lead the industry in advancing PS recycling within the EU.
