Two U.S. Trinseo Facilities Achieve OCS Blue Verification

November 10, 2025

Trinseo's U.S. sites in Midland, Michigan, and Louisville, Kentucky, achieved Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) Blue Verification, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence. The sites are the first Trinseo facilities in the U.S. to earn this distinction since OCS Blue Verification was introduced in 2023, underscoring the company’s leadership in advancing plastic resin loss prevention.

OCS Blue Verified status signifies that a facility has successfully implemented controls and best practices to prevent plastic pellet, flake and powder loss into the environment. Facilities must meet rigorous environmental and operational standards to earn this verification, which involves an independent third-party inspection and requires compliance across five key pillars:

  • Leadership Commitment: Active support and prioritization of zero resin loss initiatives by senior management
  • Facility Risk Assessment: Conduct a thorough evaluation of potential resin loss points throughout the facility
  • Internal Procedures: Implement documented procedures to prevent, contain and clean up resin spills
  • Employee Training and Engagement: Provide regular training to staff on resin loss prevention and engage them in continuous improvement efforts
  • Audits and Partner Engagement: Perform internal audits and collaborate with logistics partners to ensure consistent standards across the supply chain

Both the Midland and Louisville teams have been working diligently toward this achievement over the past several years. Building on Trinseo’s long-standing participation in the OCS program, the facilities enhanced their housekeeping and pellet collection practices, introduced new containment systems and improved filtration to further reduce potential environmental impact.

“Achieving OCS Blue Verification reflects the dedication of our site teams and reinforces Trinseo’s broader commitment to sustainability and responsible operations,” said Melissa Kirkland, Trinseo’s Global EH&S Director. “Through continuous improvement and collaboration, we are helping to build a more sustainable future for the plastics industry.”

This achievement places Trinseo’s Midland and Louisville sites among a prestigious group of OCS Blue verified facilities. While OCS Blue is a U.S.-based program, Trinseo has been actively engaged with OCS worldwide for many years. Since 2014, Trinseo facilities have upheld the OCS Pledge to Prevent Resin Pellet Loss. As of April 2025, all the company’s European manufacturing sites have achieved external OCS Certification, while the company’s other facilities continue to be guided by these principles.
