Uncertainty has a way of testing what we are truly made of. In 2025, the global chemical industry faced no shortage of complexity, from shifting sustainability landscapes to continued economic pressure and geopolitical uncertainties. And yet, the progress Trinseo teams made on our sustainability initiatives is encouraging. Not because the path was easy, but because Trinseo's commitment to purposeful, sustainability-focused innovation held steady.
Our 16th annual Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility Report, Shining Through Uncertainty, which covers FY2025, is a record of that resiliency and steadiness. It captures what happens when sustainability is woven into strategy, R&D decisions, partnerships and the everyday work of thousands of people across our organization.
Material Milestones
Advancing recycling technologies remains critical to our business strategy. Our FY2025 Sustainability Report focuses on our efforts to develop solutions that contribute to circularity through complementary recycling technologies and value chain partnerships, which support the expansion of our portfolio of recycled content-containing solutions.
Our complementary recycling technologies—polymethyl methacrylate depolymerization and polycarbonate and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene dissolution—build on the capabilities of our recycler, Heathland B.V. Alongside these technologies, we collaborate with like-minded companies to advance recycling for styrene, such as our partnership with Indaver. Together, these technologies and partnerships enable us to reliably source recycled feedstocks for our recycled content-containing solutions.
A key milestone of this work in 2025 was the introduction of recycled polystyrene (rPS) through dissolution, which was approved for direct food contact applications in Europe. Trinseo was the first and only company to deliver a rPS solution for these applications. Reaching this milestone required not only technical innovation but also coordination across collection, sorting and regulatory processes.
Together, these innovation milestones reflect our multi-pathway approach to supporting the development of a more circular economy. Our advancements illustrate the progress that becomes possible when technical capability, infrastructure and partnership align. As regulatory frameworks such as the EU's End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations and the upcoming Circular Economy Act continue to take shape, having solutions in place positions Trinseo to respond as those requirements take effect.
Advancing Our Commitments
Trinseo’s Sustainability Goals are a critical framework that our business strategy is built upon, rooted in climate awareness, a strong and engaged workforce, responsible operations and collaboration across our value chain.
In 2025, several of the goals were refined or enhanced to further advance progress in areas where original targets had been achieved, or to remain in line with industry standards and best practices. These enhanced goals build on the foundation Trinseo has been laying for many years. The revisions raise the bar while remaining grounded in our scientific approach to sustainability.
One of the most significant updates was our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions1 intensity reduction target. After exceeding our original goal of 35% ahead of schedule, we have set a new ambition of 50% intensity reduction by 2035. We also added a new interim milestone of 45% intensity reduction by 2030, creating a measurable path forward.
Alongside this, we sharpened our electricity goal to focus on renewable sources2, targeting an increase in our share of energy from renewable energy sources to 30% by 2030. In support of this goal, we activated solar installations in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, and Tessenderlo, Belgium, and are preparing to install renewable energy sources in Rheinmünster, Germany, and Merak, Indonesia.
The progress reflected in our FY2025 Sustainability Report is the result of shared commitment and sustained engagement from employees, partners, customers and additional stakeholders.
