By utilizing scientific tools like Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Product Carbon Footprints (PCF) we are able to quantify the sustainability claims for our products and better support our customers.

Additionally, we participate in industry initiatives like the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care® program and Operation Clean Sweep® to help us adopt best practices for mitigating our operational impact. Together, these efforts allow us to manufacture innovative, sustainably advantaged solutions while minimizing potential harm.

In 2024, Trinseo sold 134kT of sustainably advantaged materials, representing 8.1% of our total portfolio sales for the year.

Progress on Our Sustainable Product Portfolio Goals

In 2024, we continued to exceed our goal with 78% of technology and R&D efforts invested in circular economy solutions. We are actively developing technologies that support the transition to a circular economy, such as recycled-content plastics that leverage our dissolution and depolymerization technologies.

We continue to explore innovative technologies that meet the performance demands of virgin materials. In 2024, we expanded our recycling capabilities, which supply our business segments with consistent recycled content-containing feedstocks for sustainably advantaged solutions.

Recycling Technologies

In 2024, we continued to expand our recycling technologies, opening our PMMA depolymerization demonstration facility and ABS dissolution pilot plant. These advancements help our company expand the materials we can reuse and provide new recycled feedstocks to our businesses for continued innovation.

Our Facilities

We continue to reimagine how our solutions can be sustainably advantaged, both through our operations and raw materials. In 2024, we were granted a patent by the U.S. Patent Office for our polymer dissolution technology. Additionally, we installed solar panels at our Hamina, Finland, Latex Binders site and on our polycarbonate dissolution pilot plant.
