Details how peeling tests are carried out at the Specialized Overmolding Center in Mussolente

BERWYN, Pa. - Tuesday, November 27, 2018

Trinseo (NYSE: TSE), a global materials solutions provider and manufacturer of plastics, latex binders and synthetic rubber, has shared its expertise in overmolding and its special testing methods with a technical article in TPE Magazine International. The publication is the world’s first and only technical magazine dedicated exclusively to thermoplastic elastomers and the industries involved in the production and the processing of this group of materials. This includes the compounders of TPEs and their raw materials suppliers, machinery suppliers, and the processors of TPE materials from industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, medical, appliances, and health & beauty among others.

The article “Testing the adhesion of TPEs on rigid substrates according to VDI 2019” describes the test procedure for peeling tests conducted at Trinseo’s Specialized Overmolding Center (SOC) for Research in Mussolente, Italy. The SOC is designed to measure adhesion between TPEs and rigid thermoplastics in accordance with VDI 2019 standards. In 2008, API, now part of Trinseo, became part of a VDI initiative that focused on creating an international standard to define bond strength with the aid of a systematic peeling-test procedure.

The SOC has two functions: evaluate Trinseo’s in-house TPE product innovations and deliver R&D support to product manufacturers. The goal is to provide customers suitable TPE testing on any rigid thermoplastic material during the design phase.

“The SOC enables us to offer combined and tailor-made solutions for a wide range of overmolding applications,” said Marco Meneghetti, R&D Leader TPE Solutions at Trinseo.
