Trinseo’s SB Latex Binders for Geogrid Applications in Construction

As construction methods for public infrastructure continue to advance, the use of warp-knitted polyester or fiber-glass geogrids has become widespread. These geogrids are commonly used as a reinforcement treatment on soft soil foundation, roadbeds, dams, hillsides, and in mining projects, to strengthen foundations and enhance their protective capabilities, thereby improving the bearing capacity and stability of materials. Trinseo’s styrene-butadiene (SB) latex is an important binding material for geogrids, enabling excellent fiber positioning ability, adhesion, and retention. These products can improve the product quality and durability of many infrastructure projects.

Trinseo has more than 60 years of experience in the development and manufacturing of latex binders. Our high-performance latex binder materials used in infrastructure are not only low-odor and more eco-friendly, but also effective in improving the performance of the geogrids, ensuring that the infrastructure is safer and more durable. Compared with other similar products, Trinseo’s latex binders come with the following benefits:

  • Excellent fiber positioning ability,
  • Excellent adhesion,
  • Solutions of different stiffness can be customized to suit different projects,
  • Excellent retention, and
  • Low VOC, enabling a more environmentally friendly production process.
